Job Description Summary

The Center for Public Health (CPH) at the University of Pennsylvania, seeks an Associate Director to shape and operationalize the strategic direction and success of the Center through fostering multi-disciplinary collaboration, promoting excellence in public health research and community partnerships, and educating and training public health leaders and practitioners.

The Center for Public Health is a university-wide center founded in 2007 to promote interdisciplinary research, education, and practice in public health. CPH aims to create a public health home for scholars, trainees, and community partners at Penn. CPH also provides programmatic support to Penn’s Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program that are necessary for its Council on Education for Public Health accreditation.

The Associate Director position will support the Executive Director of the Center in administration of the overall mission of CPH. In addition, this position will support the Directors of Education, Community Engagement, and Research, to integrate the programmatic initiatives of these core areas.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Engage faculty, researchers, and stakeholders across various disciplines at Penn to advance public health research, education, and community engagement;

  • Engage public health organizations, community-based organizations, and relevant external stakeholders to identify opportunities for collaboration;

  • Identify and execute opportunities for strategic growth and alignment to advance the mission of CPH;

  • Elevate the reputation and impact of CPH to both internal and external stakeholders, as well as disseminate the work of the Center through various marketing and communication strategies;

  • Monitor and manage the Center’s budget, as well as identify and secure additional funding through grant opportunities and philanthropy;

  • Oversee the portfolio of existing programming including, but not limited to, CPH seminar series, practice and research series, learning institutes, and fellows program;

  • Supervise staff, as assigned, and ensure effective communication and coordination amongst all CPH team members;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and 7 to 10 years of experience or Masters of Science, Masters of Arts, and 5 to 7 or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • A master’s degree in public health or in a health-related field, and background in public health practice is strongly preferred. Candidates must have documented experience in leading successful interdisciplinary collaboration; a strong understanding of public health programming in higher education or at a relevant public health organization; excellent communication and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders; and, supervisory and budget management experience.
