About the role

Position Summary 

The Visitor Services Position at Fort Niobrara NWR will assist with visitor service operations including managing the visitor center and all other public use facilities. The applicant will help coordinate a fee-recreation program, partner with the National Park Service and assist other refuges throughout the complex as needed.

Schedule 

May 18, 2026 - August 7, 2026

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Coordination of the public use areas: visitor center, hiking trails, canoe launch area, overlooks
  • Maintenance of lawn and trails: mowing, trimming public use areas
  • Assisting in a recreational fee program

 

Marginal Duties 

  • Assisting in public outreach events with the NPS
  • Maintaining bison fence
  • Invasive species management
  • Assisting other refuges with biology work.

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Drivers License

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Visitor Service or Biology degree/background

This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

 

Hours 

40 per week

 

Living Accommodations 

A bunkhouse will be provided for the selected individual. The bunkhouse is on site and has a communal kitchen, bathroom, living area, gym, laundry.

 

Compensation  

  • Living allowance: $450/week
  • Travel allowance: $1,100 (paid once)

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
