Senior Engineer - Customer Monitoring

We recently successfully launched an Engineering Hub in Lisbon and we are set to replicate this journey in one of the most vibrant cities in Europe: Milan! Milan’s hub will contribute to Mollie’s mission with multiple passionate agile engineering teams that will innovate, build and contribute to our portfolio of next-generation payment products. We are currently looking for engineers for multiple engineering teams. You will be considered for all of these teams. We aim to match engineers to their ideal team based on their preferences and background.
Our Monitoring teams oversee all monitoring activities necessary for Mollie in managing credit, integrity, and fraud risks. Your role involves building technologies to detect malicious or insolvent merchants before they harm Mollie or our customers. It's crucial for Mollie to stay profitable and compliant with regulations like anti-money laundering. You'll work in a cross-functional team with engineers, Data and ML specialists, enhancing existing tools and developing new ones using monitoring algorithms based on streaming and machine learning.
What you will be doing:
Building solid foundations for our Java ecosystem
Helping us to build large-scale services in Java
Working closely with engineers and product to build features at a large scale
Designing, developing, and maintaining APIs, services and systems across Mollie’s engineering teams
Evaluating & solving complex problems across the stack
Putting your skills to the test and allowing yourself to grow and learn rapidly
What you'll bring
A minimum of 7 years experience in developing large-scale web applications
Strong knowledge of Java is a must; other languages (like PHP, Go, Python) are a plus
You know all about Service Oriented Architecture patterns
Some professional grasp of working with the public cloud (either GCP, AWS or Azure)
You have a background of building scalable systems
Creative problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills and you've worked effectively with different stakeholders
Nice to haves:
You have previously worked in a fast-paced environment
Previous knowledge of Google Cloud Platform
You know about event streaming and distributed systems
You have migrated services between microservices and monoliths and understanding the practical tradeoffs of one architecture versus the other
You have previously worked within the Payments or FinTech sector
