Research Engineer in the field of hot-dip-galvanizing process
ArcelorMittalAbout the role
ArcelorMittal is the world’s largest steel producer. We use the most innovative technologies to create the steels tomorrow’s world will be made of. Every day over 125,000 of our talented people, located in over 60 countries, push the boundaries of digitalization, and use advanced technologies to create a stronger, faster, and smarter world. To help make this possible, they know they can depend on the support and training that a company of our scope and scale can provide.
Comprising 1,650 researchers spread across 14 Research Centres around the world, our Global R&D team aims to continuously improve the quality of steel and its manufacturing processes. This involves investigating and developing disruptive technologies, reducing the carbon footprint of steel, and optimizing costs while maintaining uncompromising quality. The team's strong multicultural diversity, with over 30 nationalities, offers international experience and makes it possible to meet global needs.
You will join the Metallic Coatings and Surfaces (MCS) cluster, which is part of the Product Research Center. This cluster, consisting of about 70 people, aims to master and develop both existing and new metallic coatings, surface treatments, and innovative processes.
To achieve these objectives, various areas of expertise are developed and applied, including corrosion resistance, surface analysis, coating behavior/characterization, and the hot-dip galvanizing process. The position offered is within the process sub-team, called the "Metallic Coatings Process Team." In this team, activities focus on developing process knowledge, technologies, and models to increase production yield, improve the robustness of our current product offerings, and expand them.
Your role
We are looking for a research engineer specializing in the hot-dip-galvanizing process. As part of the Metallic Coatings Process team, you will contribute to the optimization and development of process solutions (models, technologies, etc.). You will specialize in coating metallurgy (during galvanization, solidification, thermal treatment, etc.) and the modeling of reactions at the interfaces between the steel surface and the furnace atmosphere. For this, knowledge of materials science is required, and a specialization in modeling, or a strong interest in it, is expected. Skills in programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) to fit and solve models are also expected (or a strong willingness to develop these skills). You are expected to take part in several projects, with the following main responsibilities:
- Use and develop models,
- Manage trials on lab pilots, with the support of technicians,
- Organize industrial trials and interpret results,
- Coordinate exchanges with plants to propose industrial line adaptations,
- Benchmark existing solutions within the ArcelorMittal group and at competitors/suppliers.
You will rely on advanced tools (various laboratory pilots and models) and solid expertise available both within and outside the cluster.
Your profile
- You hold a Master’s degree with general technical education and specialization in materials science. A PhD would be a plus.
- You are advanced in French and in English.
- You are a team player with good communication skills.
- You are rigorous and autonomous.
- You are curious and have the willingness to learn constantly.
According to ArcelorMittal Global R&D values:
- You agree to comply with health and safety rules.
- You are respectful, transparent, honest, and empathetic in your relationships. You honor your word and your commitments to others.
- You agree to behave consistently with the highest level of integrity.
- You strive to question your practices. with high expectations of yourself and others, you strive for a high level of quality and reliability in everything you do.
- You recognize that diversity, varied skills, and fresh ideas make a group exponentially better in the pursuit of a common goal.
- You know that learning changes minds and lives, so you are committed to learning throughout your professional career and continually achieving the skills required and essential to your success.
- You are open to ideas that challenge conventions and stimulate innovation.
Join us and you will see that your work will help create renewable energy, impact major industries and boost economies. At ArcelorMittal, we'll help you create your world.
