About the role

The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a Quality Control Manager to join our NuSil team supporting manufacturing of high-purity silicone products. In this role you will provide leadership, technical, and strategic guidance, supporting quality operations for chemical manufacturing in an ISO 9001 and AS9100 certified environment.  You will also drive and engage with continuous improvement activities to support the QC lab(s) and overall business objectives.

This role will be a full-time, onsite position based out of our Carpinteria, CA facility.  You may also coordinate with and provide support to manufacturing sites in Bakersfield, CA, and Irving. What we’re looking for:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in chemistry or similar science from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in Quality roles in a regulated ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 manufacturing environment.  
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams.
  • Preferred experience in advanced silicone industry; chemical manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Experience in quality systems, quality assurance, and quality control.
  • Extensive knowledge in relevant regulations such as ISO 9001 and AS9100 are preferred.
  • A proven leader, in a manufacturing and QC lab environment, that can contribute to maturing Quality functions, systems and risk-based processes to achieve business objectives.
  • A quality, compliance, and business minded individual that values a growth mindset, partnerships, and collaboration.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization, regulators, customers, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge on the application of regulated quality and production risk-based processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


How you will thrive and create an impact:

  • Lead the site Quality Control teams to achieve strategic plans, initiatives, and annual objectives.
  • Develop and cultivate high performing teams of chemists, technicians, administrators, and cross-functional partnerships to ensure the quality of NuSil products.
  • Ensure compliance to the applicable regulatory requirements and effectiveness and efficiency of the Quality Management System, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control. Engage with harmonization efforts to improve standardization across sites.
  • Drive continuous improvement, via the QMS and ABS, to achieve Quality compliance, performance targets, and business objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to identify, evaluate, develop, and implement Quality Control technologies and techniques, including associated qualification and validation activities.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and expertise on quality matters, to include qualitative and quantitative product quality testing and results, material disposition, customer complaints, audit compliance, and other compliance requirements as appropriate.
  • Ensure each individual material batch is tested and dispositioned in accordance with defined product release procedures and all QC documentation complies with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and established SOP/WI.
  • Communicate with management, customers, and internal stakeholders on Quality strategy plans and annual objective progress, compliance, product performance, and improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
