Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician serves as a part of the healthcare team at Piedmont Medical Center and collaborates with other team members to provide optimal care. The Pharmacy Technician accepts responsibility and accountability for provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures. Assists pharmacists in preparing, labeling and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and supplies, receiving, sorting, and stocking medications and supplies. Bills and credits medications to patients.
Responsibilities
- Facilitates the accurate and safe preparation, distribution and control of medications throughout the continuum of care. Demonstrates proficiency with pharmacy software, hardware and equipment.
- Assists pharmacists in preparing, labeling and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and supplies, receiving, sorting, and stocking medications and supplies.
- Bills and credits medications to patients.
- Additional training in specialized areas of need, such as pharmacy buyer or automated dispensing cabinet functions, on specific software, hardware or pharmacy automation, preparation of sterile IV compounds, not including chemotherapy, checking the work of other technicians as eligible, or other advanced duties as assigned.
- Performs sterile IV compounding/admixture. May perform in an informal leadership role.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Required:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Experience:
- Acute Care Setting:
- Considerable knowledge and application of basic mathematic skills, including ratio and proportion relationships;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration and adverse effects.
- Acute Care Setting:
- Certifications/Registrations/Licenses:
- Current SC Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern license required.
- American Heart Association BLS Certification required, must be obtained within 7 days of hire.
Preferred:
- Education: Associates Degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of two years in any setting with one year of experience in a hospital setting preferred
- Certifications/Registrations/Licenses:
- SC State-Certified Pharmacy Technician registration preferred.
- National Pharmacy Technician certification (PTCB) preferred
