JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Independent Practitioner, the LPN:
- Is responsible for providing nursing care as directed by physicians and registered nurses.
- Ensures services are performed in a safe environment in accordance with established guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Serves as part of the imaging center team and seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Identifies patients and assists technologists with patient preparation and positioning.
- Collaborates with Imaging Center staff to facilitate timely patient care.
- Assumes leadership role in absence of Nursing Supervisor, as assigned.
- Prepares patient for procedure by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
- Provides optimal patient care by explaining procedure to patient and answering questions.
- Assists with assessment, planning, and implementation of nursing care.
- Follows established Safety Standards to ensure safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Performs venipuncture and maintains intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
- Performs quality assurance checks on equipment.
- Takes the initiative to help other modalities/areas of the Imaging Center as assigned or when own work load/area allows.
- Identifies, prepares, and/or administers medications as prescribed by and under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Establishes ownership of clinical area by taking pride in appearance and readiness of exam rooms, treatment area, equipment, and supplies.
- Monitors and records the physiological condition of patients.
- Assists with discharge planning and teaching.
- Functions as liaison with primary care departments.
- As required, instructs students and residents, and performs preceptor duties as necessary.
- Serves, manages, and supports internal and external customers.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Demonstrates consistent use of AIDET (Acknowledge patient, Introduce yourself, provide Duration/timeline for test, Explain the process, & Thank them for choosing our center) and HEAL ( Hear them out, Empathize, Apologize, & Leap into action to solve) when interacting with patients/customers.
- Participates as a team member and is accountable for own work responsibilities.
- Attends/participates in staff meetings, in-services, & center-wide meetings as scheduled.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 1 year as a LPN in a clinical setting
EDUCATION:
- Must be a graduate of an approved LPN program.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must meet the state licensure requirement for the state in which they practice. BLS certification required within 60 days of hire.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to work independently and multitask under the direction of a RN or licensed independent practitioner.
- Ability to manage medical emergencies and/or contrast reactions under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner.
- Ability to provide documentation accurately and concisely.
LANGUAGE SKILLS/REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to successfully write reports, business correspondence, and policy.
