Position Summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington (BGCSW) is seeking dependable, mission-driven individuals to join our team as on-call substitutes for our youth development programs. Substitutes are needed during our summer session (June 16 – August 15), with the opportunity to continue year-round.

In this role, you will support daily programming and help create a safe, engaging environment for youth in our Elementary and Teen Clubs. BGCSW utilizes Paycom to make picking up open shifts easy and convenient based on your availability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and delivery of youth programming in areas such as education, technology, art, recreation, and games
  • Provide behavior guidance using restorative practices, conflict resolution, and problem-solving strategies
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating integrity, respect, and reliability
  • Ensure youth safety through active supervision, clear expectations, and maintenance of clean program spaces
  • Foster an environment that promotes inclusivity, respect, and empowerment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum age: 18 for Elementary Clubs, 21 for Teen Clubs
  • Successful completion of background checks including:
    • National Sex Offender Registry Check
    • Local Criminal Background Check
    • Social Security Verification
    • National Criminal Background Check
  • Demonstrated interest in youth development; previous experience is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Work Schedule

  • Summer Program (June 16 – August 15): Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM (varies by shift)
  • School-Year Program (Sept 2, 2024 – June 5, 2025): Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM (varies by shift)
  • Flexible, on-call schedule based on availability and program needs

  • Clinton & Gloria John Clubhouse - 409 NE Anderson St
  • O.K. Clubhouse – 4040 Plomondon St
  • Heights O.K. 2 Clubhouse – 500 Council Bluffs Way
  • Washington Elementary Club – 2908 S St
  • Fruit Valley Elementary Club - 3410 NW Fruit Valley Rd
  • Burton Elementary Club – 14015 NE 28th St
  • Teen Turf Club – 4040 Plomondon St
  • Elise Menashe Teen Center - 409 NE Anderson St

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $17–$19, depending on experience
  • Bilingual candidates (Spanish) may be eligible for additional compensation
