Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.

CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi, and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of South Los Angeles neighborhoods.

The Biomedical Sciences Enrichment Coordinator will coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Biomedical Sciences Enrichment Program and serve as an important liaison with students, faculty, and other staff members. The Biomedical Sciences Enrichment Coordinator is a member of the Program leadership team and is critical to the success of the program. As such, the Biomedical Sciences Enrichment Coordinator must possess skills in leadership, organization, and administrative support. The coordinator assists the Program Manager and the Dean in various programmatic efforts, educational programming, and support of students. This position supports CDU’s mission of developing culturally competent professionals dedicated to addressing health disparities in underserved communities, upholding hallmarks of service excellence and quality in all job responsibilities.

Salary range:  $66,560-$94,700

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates operational activities of the Biomedical Sciences Enrichment Program, ensuring program goals and objectives are accomplished.
  • Provides administrative support to the Program Manager and Dean in preparing educational materials, planning events, and organizing travel arrangements.
  • Assists in coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, and maintaining meeting minutes
  • Coordinates day-to-day communications with students, faculty, and staff, including responding to inquiries, answering phones, and providing general assistance.
  • Supports students in navigating the program, offering guidance and addressing any concerns.
  • Organizes and maintains program documentation, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and distributes a variety of documentation associated with program operations, including event logistics and travel plans.
  • Coordinates logistics for program events, including seminars, workshops, and student activities.
  • Manages computerized information systems related to collecting and storing program data, generating management reports, and documentation.
  • Supports the Program Manager in preparing reports and other program-related documents.
  • Facilitates the acquisition of resources necessary for program success, including ordering supplies and managing inventory.
  • Provides general administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the program, including processing travel reimbursements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

 EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a similar capacity.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Seven to ten years of administrative experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience in student services.

 Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid CA driver’s license and proof of insurance.

 KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:

 Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of administrative processes and procedures within an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with program coordination, event planning, and student services.
  • Proficiency in using office software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management systems.
  • Basic understanding of budgeting and financial procedures related to event planning and program management.
  • Knowledge of policies and regulations relevant to higher education and student affairs.

Ability:

  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
