About the role

Public Works Waste ReSources has one Maintenance Worker I position available.  We are looking for team- and customer-focused individuals to join our Collections Program team.  This group is responsible for collection and disposal of garbage, recycling, and organics.  This position will work Monday through Friday year-round and will assist with residential cart delivery, cart removals, and cart maintenance. This position will also be responsible for assisting the Commercial maintenance crew, including collection staff.

 

Series Concept:

1.    Maintenance Worker I is the entry and training level in the Maintenance Worker series which consists of Maintenance Worker I, Maintenance Worker II, Field Crew Leader, and Lead Maintenance Worker classifications.
2.    Maintenance Workers I perform routine labor; basic repair and construction.
4.    The more routine assignments can be accomplished with general supervision.

Essential Functions

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Deliver and pick up refuse/recycle carts and containers.

  • Repair and maintain refuse/recycle carts and containers.

  • Respond to customer requests for special pick-ups.

  • Wash and breakdown carts to prepare for recycling facility.

  • Provide support for maintenance and collection staff.

  • Respond to questions, comments, and/or complaints from customers and the public.

  • Assignments will be outside and will require work in inclement weather and/or dirty, wet, noisy or cramped work sites.

  • This position requires the physical ability to perform manual tasks, and mobility to navigate all types of surfaces and terrain.

  • This position will require the ability to lift heavy objects, up to 70 pounds.

  • Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.

  • Wash and re-paint containers and roll off’s

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


1. Knowledge of basic safety procedures and precautions.
2. Skill in operating and maintaining small manual/power tools and equipment.
3. Ability to perform strenuous physical activity.
4. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
5. Ability to work as a member of a crew.
6. Ability to respond to citizen inquiries appropriately.
 

Experience/Education:

1. One year's general work experience required.
 

Special Requirement:

1. Valid Washington State Drivers' License

Compensation (minimum-maximum):

$54,127.01 - $65,787.90
