Job Posting Title:

Seasonal Application Reader

Job Description:

Title of Job:  Seasonal Application Reader

POSITION SUMMARY:

Harvey Mudd College seeks a temporary full- or part-time application reader for its 2026-27 admission cycle. Harvey Mudd’s admission process is a holistic one in which students’ academic achievement, personal strengths, and potential to thrive in HMC’s collaborative and challenging environment are considered. While previous admission reading experience is preferred, it is not required.

This is an hourly paid position from November-February with the possibility of extending through mid-March. Reader training will begin in November. Reading will not take place during the college’s winter break (December 21—January 1). Some application processing tasks in Slate may be required at certain points throughout the cycle. While this is a fully remote position, candidates must reside in California.

The HMC Office of Admission uses the Committee-Based Evaluation process which requires that all application readers are available Monday-Friday from 8:30am-12:00pm and/or 1:30-5:00pm Pacific Standard Time.

Applications are read in pairs online, and therefore candidates will need access to a computer with high-speed internet access and must have a private and secure place in which to read.

Candidates will be asked to read quickly and thoroughly, process a large amount of information in a relatively short amount of time, be open to feedback from admission staff, be aware of their own personal biases, and keep HMC’s mission and enrollment goals in mind. Candidates must also be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality, have strong written and oral skills, display strong judgment, and be able to manage their time well.
