Position Overview

The Office of Inspector General is seeking to hire an Internal Security Investigator II at the Bureau of Investigations in the Cook County Region unit located in Madden, Illinois. The position travels to conduct confidential, sensitive, and complex investigations concerning reports of abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, deaths, or serious injuries at state operated facilities and community agencies; prepares written investigative reports upon the completion of the investigative process consisting of a summary of actions taken, findings, preservation of evidence and recommendations for corrective action and/or case closure; maintains confidential files pertaining to intakes under investigation; recommends revisions in investigatory procedures and practices; and serves as an expert witness and gives testimony in criminal and administrative hearings related to the conduct of or results of the investigation.

Job Responsibilities

1. Travels to conduct confidential, sensitive, and complex investigations concerning reports of abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, death, serious injuries of persons with disabilities at state operated facilities and community agencies.
2. Prepares written investigative reports upon the completion of the investigative process consisting of summary of actions taken, findings, preservation of evidence and recommendations for corrective action and/or case closure.
3. Maintains confidential files pertaining to intakes under investigation.
4. Recommends revisions in investigatory procedures and practices.
5. Serves as an expert witness and gives testimony in criminal and administrative hearings related to the conduct of or results of the investigation.
6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, with coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus four (4) years professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field OR requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with major coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus two (2) years professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field OR requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of a master's degree, with major course work in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration plus one (1) year professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field OR requires completion of the F.B.I. National Academy or comparable law enforcement schooling, plus two (2) years of professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field.
