Description

TITLE: Medical Technologist II – Microbiology (multiple openings)

DUTIES: Perform various laboratory tests and procedures while adhering to standard operating procedures on patient specimens to assist in the diagnosis, study and treatment, or prevention of disease. Uphold the values of the organization including providing and demonstrating exemplary customer service skills throughout the pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes. May perform tests including but not limited to standardized and semi-routine biological, chemical, hematological, immunological, immunohematological, microbiological, and serological tests in a research or clinical laboratory. Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and calibrate equipment and instruments as required. Operate laboratory equipment and troubleshoot equipment and instrument malfunctions. May serve as key operator for implementation of new equipment and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or related field of study and two (2) years of experience as a Medical Technologist or related role where required experience gained.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS: Also requires two (2) years of experience in the following:

  • Certified by one of the following accreditation agencies: MT (ASCP), M (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), MT (HHS or HEW), MT (AAB), generalist or categorical if applicable;
  • Specimen processing (set-ups): stools, urines, tissues, body fluids, misc.;
  • Gram stains;
  • Wet / KOH Prep;
  • Reading various culture plates: Blood culture, Respiratory, Body fluid / CSF, Urine, Stool;
  • Culture Workups or work-up of significant isolates:
  • AFB (Acid-fast bacillus): processing / staining;
  • Susceptibility testing;
  • O & P (Ova and Parasite): O & P processing;
  • Molecular Microbiology tests (PCR);
  • Specialty Microbiology: Mycology / Parasitology;
  • Maintaining quality, safety, or infection control standards;
  • Utilizing, calibrating, configuring or troubleshooting laboratory instruments; and
  • Maintaining accurate and complete documentation of patient information, equipment, and test results to comply with regulations.
