Position Summary
The Senior Admissions Counselor and Event Coordinator oversees prospective and admitted student visitation programs, coordinating large-scale events for SDSU and the CSU system. This position leads campus tours, organizes recruitment activities across California, and builds relationships with faculty and staff to ensure enrollment success. The role requires independent planning and frequent travel to high schools and community colleges for recruitment efforts and advisement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate SDSU’s student visitation programs and large-scale recruitment events.
- Lead admissions presentations, application workshops, and college fairs at high schools and community colleges across California.
- Provide one-on-one advisement to prospective students and families.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and various departments to ensure successful recruitment activities.
- Plan and execute recruitment events, working closely with campus leadership and key staff.

Position Information
- This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
- This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. (Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel to engage with prospective students at high schools and community colleges.)
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
Enrollment Services is comprised of Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Graduate Admissions, Prospective Student Services, and Communications. The goals of Enrollment Services are to implement SDSU enrollment management policies and to provide services to students from their initial point of interest in SDSU to their graduation.
Prospective Student Services (PSS) represents SDSU to various constituents regarding university admissions. The unit consists of senior admission counselors, admissions counselors, and directors. The admission counselors are responsible for recruiting undergraduate students, presenting admission information to students, parents, and counselors and coordinating their travel to various high schools throughout the year. They oversee all operations of the Prospective Student Center, manage the staff and student assistants for this unit, and implement the strategic plan in order for the university to meet its enrollment management goals.

Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field; including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related. Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
A master’s degree in counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

- Experience planning and managing events, including venue selection, catering and audiovisual coordination, and creating materials like agendas.
