This Core Engineer role within Cylinder Head Structures is an individual contributor role responsible for the layout and design of cylinder heads.  The main purpose of this role is to ensure robust upfront designs meet program attributes incorporating best practices and resolution of durability issues. In this role, you will support and mentor the organization by facilitating structured problem-solving methods for resolution of technical issues for both in-flight development and ongoing production, driving robust issue closure in a timely manner.

 

In this position... 

Design Valvetrain layouts/Combustion systems/Cylinder Heads for all global programs

Review and verify models and the intended revisions meet quality and manufacturing parameters.

Interface with CAE engineers, CAD & commodity, CPMT, Technical Specialists, Manufacturing to design and evaluate cylinder heads to meet design/durability requirements.

Engage in upfront design process to ensure lessons learned are driven into advanced designs.

Mentor CPMTs for cylinder heads, support delivery for program requirements

Review FEDE sign-offs, support design and quality document reviews

Direct CAD team to meet quality and manufacturing parameters.

Support quality objections/quality actions/prevent recurrence actions/DFMEA reviews and updates.

What you'll do...

Design and model Cylinder Head Ports, Integrated Exhaust Manifolds (IEM), Combustion Chambers and valvetrain layouts

Core Engineer for Cylinder Head Design 

Support CPMTs/plant/field warranty analysis to lead feedback into design improvements.

Engage with Durability CAE to improve upfront design.

Share & present work to cross-functional teams and executive leadership.

Support Technical Expert in , FEDE Review, model reviews, design reviews and quality document reviews

You'll have...  

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study 

Expert CATIA user or willing/ability to learn, CAD is integral to performing job function.

Willing/ability to learn to work in a conceptual 3D space using LOS and Duct to package valvetrain and port designs.

5+ years of experience in Cylinder Head Components or Valve Train components or cast/machined components.

Experience/willingness to learn FEDE

Understanding of CAE correlation to physical testing.

Even better, you may have...

Working knowledge of structural system verification, quality, manufacturing, and assembly methods.

Knowledge of the following: CATIA, combustion systems, valvetrain, casting process and materials, machining.

Demonstrated capability and willingness to learn/innovate, teach/coach/mentor and document technical knowledge.

Demonstrated high level of organization and communication skills, self motivated and willing to work in a team environment.

Ability to work on multiple projects and balance conflicting objectives/trade offs in the delivery of technical objectives.
