This position is for a highly motivated manager to lead a team of 12-17 software engineers whose charter is to design and develop embedded software, including software that interfaces with hardware. This position is to lead a team focused on developing software for defense and military Command and Control (C2) and Command, Control and Communications (C3) systems architectures, in order to enable advanced capabilities of modern day and future weapons systems.  

What You Will Do:

  • Project leadership over the entire life cycle including bids, project management, design, requirements capture, coding, integration, verification, and certification
  • Provide technical leadership and accountability for team and project performance
  • Demonstrate a passion for coaching and mentoring
  • Identify, recruit, and develop software engineering talent across the spectrum of entry-level to very experienced software engineers
  • Build and leverage networks within the department and within Collins Aerospace
  • Communicate well with a wide variety of individuals including Engineering, Program Management, internal leadership, and customers
  • Provide direction to direct reports
  • Ensure compliance with development processes and standard work environments
  • Divide time between technical oversight and people management

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • Ability to obtain Final Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Practical experience in all phases of pursuit, development, software integration and software test
  • Possess software engineering skills, critical and innovative thinking, strategic planning, and an ability to build and motivate a team
  • Previous Software Manager, Software Lead or Software Project Engineer experience
  • Software development experience (minimum 5-7 years)

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience in development of embedded or application software to support military airborne platforms
  • Direct experience in development of software bid and proposal efforts
  • Experience/knowledge with software development methods such as Iterative or agile
  • Experience/knowledge of communications systems
