About the role:

Zscaler is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to be a founding member and lead the technical direction for a new software development team in Platform Experience Engineering. In this role, you will drive the development of business intelligence platforms for debuggability, observability, and operability across all Zscalers products and clouds. 

Our mission is to build highly-available and performant distributed systems, capable of enabling quick issue identification, resolution, deflection, and prevention. Our ultimate goal is to ensure a smooth and seamless Zscaler experience for our customers.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead the definition, design, implementation and delivery of these innovative platforms. You will partner with the team’s engineers, cross functional teams and product managers to drive the vision. You will also coach junior members of the team.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the definition, design, implementation, and delivery of the highly-available and performant distributed business intelligence platforms for  observability, debuggability and operability across all Zscalers products and clouds. 
• Write microservices, develop and extend in-house APIs, write client-side code which interacts with other APIs (RESTful and SDKs)
• Work with front-end engineers to understand user requirements and provide endpoints that help accomplish building impactful interfaces.
• Develop and maintain a scalable web and responsive applications
• Monitor system health and troubleshoot issues as they arise
• Exhibit service ownership mindset - Work on continuous integration, including provisioning, deployment, testing, and version control of the softwareOptimize system performance and ensure reliability and security.
• Develop process and tooling for the development and delivery of software.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, regulators, and vendors.
• Responsible for reviewing and guiding the team on scalable and highly secure architecture that meets current and future business needs.
• Works closely with peers, delivery managers and team on process standardization and innovation.

Qualifications:

• Passionate software developer with 10+ years of hands-on software application development experience
• 8+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
• Proven experience in designing and implementing scalable distributed systems
• Expertise in Java and Spring frameworks such as Spring Webflux, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, etc
• Demonstrated Experience in Cloud Computing using AWS, GCP or other cloud providers
• Containerization experience with applications deployed on Docker or Kubernetes
• Experience with scaling backend services using caching technologies such as Redis.
• Design backend messaging infrastructure using frameworks like Kafka.
• Experience with high-availability distributed systems using Kafka and ElasticSearch
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g. Bamboo, Jenkins Pipeline, or Spinnaker)
• Experience with Git or other version control systems, Test-driven development (TDD)
• Ability to quickly adapt & independently work in a fast-paced Agile environment with minimum supervision.
