The role – what you’ll do
Barr is seeking a senior process engineer to join our team. In this hybrid role, you will support our Engineering and Design business unit. The person in this position will provide leadership and work with multidisciplinary project teams, providing process engineering and technical expertise related to pyrometallurgy and the processing of ferrous, nonferrous ores, and similar materials.
A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Experience with process safety and risk management in heavy industrial facilities is critical in this role. They possess exceptional organizational skills, can work in a fast-paced environment, and have a flexible working style. They are also willing to occasionally modify their schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
Your impact – key responsibilities
Project management: plans, schedules, and manages process engineering projects.
Technical oversight: oversees process design, material and energy balances, and process modeling; process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams; reports and equipment specifications; operating and controls philosophies; cost estimates; process safety and code reviews; construction work packages; operational troubleshooting; and startup and commissioning.
Business development: leads teams in developing and executing strategies around ferrous and non-ferrous mining-related marketing and business development.
About the opportunity
Compensation: anticipated range of $100,000–130,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as an exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Hybrid: a hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of our Hibbing, Minnesota office.
Travel expectation: approximately 5–10 percent.
Work environment: ability to work in an office environment and ability to work in locations that involve rough terrain typical of construction/manufacturing/rural outdoor sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
About you – required core competencies
Education: bachelor's degree in chemical, petrochemical, or mechanical engineering.
Experience: at least 10 years of related experience.
Experience working at industrial sites as an operating engineer, project engineer, or consultant.
Working knowledge of codes and guidelines related to process safety.
Licenses/certifications: Professional Engineer, ability to obtain within one year, or registrations or certifications related to process safety.
Software: experience with process simulation programs such as Metsim, AspenTech, or similar. Familiarity with basic Microsoft Office software packages, especially Excel.
Driver’s license: possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
