About the role

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of a licensed physician, provides medical services to patient using approved patient care protocols; collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and  therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations and provides direct patient care services. Responsible for assisting surgeonsin the management of patients and perform diagnostic, therapeutic and intraoperative procedures under the supervision of the surgeon. To work closely with and assist surgeons on the assigned service lines in providing quality, efficient and cost effective care during a patient’s hospitalization. To ensure continuity between clinical practice and standards of care as well as promote and aid in patient preparation for procedures progressing towards discharge. To work collaboratively with physicians, nurses and case managers and other healthcare disciplines utilizing a team approach. Knowledge of, adherence to, monitoring of, and compliance of all regulatory and licensing agencies including but not limited to TJC, OSHA, ACHA, CMS, etc.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Others may be assigned.

1. Evaluates patients with physician and finishes communication with patient once physician has left the room

2. Ensures post-op patients received the necessary medications and follow up on patients 

3. Advise patients during their post-op period

4.Assist physician with the flow of the office, to ensure patients are not waiting long. Communicate with staff on daily basis to keep flow in the office.

5.Write prescriptions for medications and diagnostic tests. Authorize new and re-fill on prescriptions from the pharmacy

6. Write appropriate letters of medical necessity

7.Sign off on patients medical results, advise physician of abnormalities that are found

8. Surgical Assist in operating room

9. Sign off on patients medical results, advise physician of abnormalities that are found

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with guidelines, policies and procedures and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Include minimum education, technical training, and/or experience required to perform the job.

  •  Graduate from a Physician Assistant program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) required
  •  Current FL PA Licensure 
  •  DEA eligible
  •  Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider required
