Sr. Trial Counsel, Litigation
CoinbaseAbout the role
Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?
At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.
To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.
Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.
Coinbase is looking to bring some of its litigation docket in-house. We are seeking a Sr. Trial Counsel with a track record of winning at trial. The successful candidate will report to our Head of Consumer Litigation and will own every aspect of their matters, from intake, to discovery, to summary judgment, and if necessary, trial. Your matters will vary but would generally consist of U.S. consumer arbitrations. Some travel will be required (to trials and hearings), but the position is otherwise fully remote.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
- Develop and drive Coinbase’s consumer litigation strategy.
- Manage and run all aspects of consumer arbitration matters, including discovery, fact development, witness preparation, depositions, hearings, motion practice, and arbitration trials.
- Identify and manage litigation risk and counsel the business to minimize exposure.
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
- At least 8 years of experience at a top tier law firm or in the government as a trial lawyer or federal prosecutor, particularly with significant experience handling trials, hearings, depositions, arbitrations, and mediations.
- Exceptional writing ability.
- Passionate about trying cases.
- Enthusiasm for Coinbase’s mission, products, and services.
- A strong interest in crypto and a passion to drive the economic freedom it can offer
- Willingness to travel, and ability to work independently and autonomously
- Juris doctor from accredited law school required
- Member of a US state bar in good standing
Nice to haves:
- Consumer protection experience.
- Experience working on trials involving cryptocurrency.
- Previous experience at a crypto company, a law firm, a tech company, or a financial services firm.
