The Work You Will Do:
DMS’ Office of General Counsel is seeking an Attorney to handle a variety of legal issues for the Division of State Group Insurance (DSGI), which administers the healthcare coverage and other benefits for all State of Florida employees.
This Attorney will develop a proficiency in state and federal law affecting DSGI, including relevant healthcare laws. This position will:
• Provide general legal advice and counsel to DSGI, including assisting on all legal questions and regulatory compliance matters;
• Provide assistance in contract management issues for DSGI; and
• Draft proposed legislation and administrative rules intended to carry out the policies and statutory functions of DSGI.
This position may also have the opportunity to handle litigation for the program areas from time to time, or to serve as an agency informal hearing officer, depending on the employee’s interest in such opportunities.
How You Will Grow:
This position provides the opportunity to develop a competency in healthcare law and provide legal advice and counsel to the Department on a wide variety of issues, which includes the complex statutes, rules, and regulations affecting all facets of DSGI. DSGI works in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, allowing the attorney ongoing exposure to new subject matter and the unique opportunity to assist with structuring and implementing new programs in compliance with both Florida and federal law.
The Office of General Counsel also supports attorney development by providing Continuing Legal Education opportunities and allowing its attorneys to gain exposure to other highly specialized areas of the law that the office assists with by promoting collaboration and cross-training in these highly specialized areas (e.g., real estate, employment and labor relations, information technology). Ultimately, this position will allow the right candidate the opportunity to grow professionally while working alongside a team of talented and professional attorneys in a collegial atmosphere.
