Jefferson County is seeking well qualified, motivated Senior Water Reclamation Facility Maintenance Workers to maintain the mechanical and electrical equipment and machinery in water reclamation facilities and wastewater lift stations located throughout the county. Employees in this job classification troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform general and preventative maintenance on various equipment, stations, buildings, and locations throughout the Water Reclamation Facility. Employees in this job classification may also lead a small crew in major plant repairs and installations of equipment. Senior Water Reclamation Facility Maintenance Workers also fabricate parts such as pump shafts, pistons, and other equipment parts by using lathes, milling machines, and welding equipment. While this position does not directly supervise, it does perform lead worker duties. Work is performed primarily in and around Water Reclamation Facilities.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Driver's license.
Experience performing mechanical maintenance in an industrial environment (e.g., repairing, rebuilding and performing maintenance on equipment such as pumps, valves, blowers, and other industrial equipment).
Work experience in two or more of the following areas: (fabrication, cutting, welding, machining).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Jefferson County. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Certification from an accredited institution in one or more of the following areas: (industrial maintenance, welding, pipe fitting, machining/fabrication, plumbing, HVAC).
Class B commercial driver's license.
Work experience building or repairing complex mechanical systems (e.g., transmissions, engines, etc.).
Work experience performing job duties in confined spaces.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems with Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment by inspecting equipment, identifying root cause of problems, and determining solutions.
Performs general and preventative maintenance on various equipment, stations, buildings, and locations throughout the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to ensure proper and safe plant operations.
Participates in major plant repairs and installations of pumps, grit systems, shafts, bar rakes, pipe fittings, plumbing, electrical controls and other Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment.
Repairs and/or installs new Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment such as pumps, clarifiers, chlorinators, grit systems, shafts, bar rakes, pipe fittings, plumbing, and electrical controls as needed.
Participates in the fabrication of machinery parts such as pump shafts, pistons, and other equipment parts by using lathe, milling machines, and welding equipment.
Sets-up lathe and milling machine speed, fastening, centering, and depth of cut.
Welds a variety of materials such as copper, steel, and aluminum using a welding equipment in order to repair or fabricate pump shafts, bearing journals and pistons, and other required parts.
Directs the work of new employees and other crew members when working on the job site by giving instructions, answering questions, and monitoring work for completeness and safety.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job involves moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 75 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in and around Water Reclamation Facilities. Work involves the use of various hand and power tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, grinders, saws etc. Job may require exposure to biological and/or chemical hazards, including raw sewage.
