Job Description:
Job Summary- Manages the corporate Hazardous Materials Program to ensure Southwest is in compliance with all regulatory requirements concerning the transportation of company materials, cargo and baggage as well as ensuring the safety of our Employees and passengers.

Responsibilities- Manage the Corporate Hazardous Materials Transportation Program
- Act as liaison between the Company and the DOT/FAA regarding hazardous materials programs, procedures, and policies
- Manage the evaluation of corporate policies and procedures and ensures regulatory requirements are incorporated in a timely manner to meet regulatory requirements
- Manage relationships with Safety representatives from all operational departments, regulatory authorities, trade associations and governing bodies (DOT, FAA, NTSB, IATA, ICAO, etc.)
- Manage the review of DOT-PHMSA rulemakings and leads meetings to ensure all affected workgroups are aware of coming changes and how that might affect policies, procedures and training
- Manage corporate dangerous goods manual and work closely with training development teams to develop, update and approve all corporate hazardous materials training for all required departments
- Manage hazardous materials incident reporting as well as internal hazmat discrepancy reporting
- Manage the handling and completion of FAA Compliance Action and Voluntary Disclosure responses and processes
- May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders
- Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air or road, including the relative costs and benefits
- Knowledge of the operational departments of a Part 121 major air carrier
- Skilled in problem solving, investigations, analysis and research
- Skilled in monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action
- Ability to remember detailed information and procedures
- Ability to read, interpret and articulate state/federal/international regulations
- Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, which does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem
- Ability to speak effectively to diverse audiences
- Ability to write clear, concise, technical reports and articles
- Ability to work extended hours that can include 24/7 availability to assist with any internal or external questions regarding hazardous materials
- Ability to make final decisions, as well as handle Hazardous Material Incident reporting and notification
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
- Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
- HAZMAT and/or the transportation of hazardous materials
- Aviation industry
- Project management
- Required: Hazardous Materials Certification or equivalent knowledge of/education in Hazmat regulations
- Ability to perform work duties from [limited space workstation/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the deman
