SummaryEstes Energetics is searching for an Industrial Automation and Controls Engineer at our research and development facility in Penrose, CO. The Industrial Automation and Controls Engineer will primarily support the development of new chemical and rocket motor manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of experience in industrial automation and controls. Essential Functions
- Collaborate with engineering team to integrate automation into new equipment and to retrofit automation into existing machinery to support the establishment of a new chemical manufacturing facility.
- Design electrical systems compliant to NEC and UL508A regulations and design some electrical systems for hazardous environments, in particular C2D1.
- Implement data acquisition and remote access functionality.
- Design data architecture and processing systems to implement statistical process control and plant optimization.
- Build electrical cabinets and install field wiring.
- Create and maintain schematics, documentation, and bills of materials for electrical cabinets.
- Implement plant networking between sensors, valves, PLCs, and control room using both analog 4-20 mA and Ethernet.
- Design data architecture and processing systems to implement statistical process control and plant optimization.
- Implement data acquisition and remote access functionality.
- Design HMI screens for controlling equipment with an emphasis on simplicity, readability, and providing feedback necessary for troubleshooting.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
- 4+ years of industrial controls experience.
- Extensive experience with ladder logic programming for PLCs is essential. Proficiency in developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing ladder logic code, preferably using Automation Direct products.
- Proficiency in HMI and SCADA programming experience.
- 4-20 mA and Ethernet communication experience.
- Hands-on experience building high quality electrical cabinets and running field wiring.
- Knowledge of electrical codes including NEC, UL508A, and hazardous area classification.
- Exposure to industrial chemical processing equipment.
- Demonstrated experience creating 3D CAD models and 2D schematics
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced design and test environment.
- Ability to take initiative and solve complex problems both indecently and as a member of a team.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain State and Federal explosives licenses including:
- Be 21 years of age or older.
- Pass pre-employment drug test.
- Pass State and Federal background checks.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Comfortable sitting, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Exposure to industrial machines, heat, cold, and explosives.
- Frequent movement through a manufacturing environment.
- Use of personal protective equipment appropriate to the work location.
