About the role
We're seeking a skilled Senior Analyst, Retail Analytics to be the data cornerstone for our retail business, focusing on our key partnerships. You'll translate complex data into actionable insights that drive strategic decisions and optimize performance across our most important retail relationships. Working directly with our sales team, you'll leverage various data sources to build compelling selling stories, manage performance dashboards, and support critical business functions from growth opportunities to promotional planning. This role is perfect for someone with deep retail environment understanding, proficiency with syndicated data, and passion for turning data into competitive advantage. This role reports to our Retail Analytics Manager.
This role is part of our remote HQ! We have a fully remote, high-trust work environment - and also come together on a quarterly basis for amazing off-sites where we can connect IRL.
In this role, you will:
- Become the Retail Data Expert: Serve as the primary analytics resource for our key accounts, providing deep analysis and strategic insights on sales, category performance, and competitive trends.
- Build Data-Driven Stories: Develop compelling, data-backed presentations and insights that the sales team can use to win new business and build stronger partnerships with key buyers.
- Manage Performance Tracking: Build and maintain detailed dashboards and reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as sales, profitability, promotional lift, and competitive activity at the retailer and item level.
- Support Strategic Planning: Play a lead role in identifying opportunities for pricing and pack size optimization, and providing analytical support for annual joint business planning.
- Analyze Promotional Effectiveness: Monitor and report on the effectiveness of promotional activities, providing clear recommendations for future campaigns based on historical performance and ROI analysis.
- Ensure Data Integrity: Partner with our data team to ensure all retail data, from POS to internal financial records, is clean, accurate, and accessible for analysis.
- Drive Process Improvements: Develop and maintain robust processes for retail analytics. Stay abreast of industry best practices, new technologies, and consistently look for areas to improve efficiencies.
We're looking for someone who:
- Has 4+ years of experience in analytics roles with at least 2 years in retail analytics, category management, or merchandise planning
- Brings direct experience with Target and/or Walmart (significant plus)
- Demonstrates strong experience with syndicated and panel data sources such as SPINS, Nielsen, Circana, or Numerator
- Shows advanced proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and PowerPoint/Google Slides
- Has proven track record of translating complex data into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrates strategic thinking ability to critically analyze data and apply insights to drive business growth
- Shows excellent communication skills with expert judgment in prioritizing information and communicating findings concisely
- Brings high-agency, proactive approach to problem-solving and passion for challenging conventional thinking
- Nice-to-have: SQL and Python programming skills for BigQuery data warehouse usage
