About the role

Overview

Cimpl's Meats, LLC, an American Foods Group Company, has opportunities for a Maintenance Mechanic at our Yankton, SD plant.

 

As our Maintenance Mechanic you will:

  • Investigate and evaluate machinery and equipment used by Cimpl’s Meats to diagnose faulty operation and report conclusions to the lead engineer to ensure continued operations. 
  • Analyze test results related to design or rated specifications and make modifications as necessary. 
  • Repair and rebuild hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Use basic hand tools to repair and rebuild equipment.
  • Perform work to keep machines, machine parts, mechanical equipment, structures and/or building systems in repair.
  • Pipe fit, insulate, plumb, align, balance, assemble, disassemble, reassemble, install, maintain, replace, change, connect, disconnect, repair, test, inspect, operate, diagnose, troubleshoot, clean, lubricate, adjust, setup, tear down, routine, preventative maintenance, and/or carpentry. 
  • Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, screwdrivers, wrenches.
  • Must be able to perform all job functions safely in accordance with safe work practices, food safety, and quality standards.
  • Identify and locate parts/part numbers from machinery or equipment manuals or parts catalogs (e.g., Cryovac, overhead chains, rail switches, conveyors, saws, etc.).
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform basic welding in a 1G and 1F positions (e.g. primarily tig; some mig and stick). Ability to identify good and bad welds.
  • Support the lead engineer in performance of routine preventive maintenance (e.g. grease bearings, lubricate, check fluid levels, replace filters, etc.) to ensure that machines run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
  • Assemble, disassemble, repair, or replace defective equipment or parts (e.g., change belts, gearboxes, etc.)
  • Perform basic forklift maintenance (change tires, replace bushings, etc.).
  • Perform basic hydraulics (e.g. change motors, make hoses, etc.).
  • Complete necessary paperwork and utilize basic computer skills for: PM sheets, work orders via CMMS systems, etc.
  • Assist in performing maintenance on scale equipment (e.g. portable, floor, and matrix - hot/cold) in applicable area(s).
  • Notify lead or supervisor of any malfunctions or repairs needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Prior experience using hand and power tools, precision measuring tools and the ability to read and work from drawings and blueprints. 
  • Must be assertive and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to withstand long periods in cold, warm, or wet/damp environments.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime (daily and/or weekends) as needed.
  • Must be able to perform basic welding (tig; some mig and stick).
  • Must be able to successfully complete training:
    • Safety.
    • Safe Quality Food (SQF).
    • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
    • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP).
    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Food defense.
    • Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs)
    • Lock out tag out.
    • Beginner level for Pallet jack, Forklift and Walker maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Diploma/GED.
  • 6 months’ maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
