About the role

Description

The University of Washington (UW), Department of Ophthalmology is currently recruiting 5 full-time physicians to work in the areas of comprehensive-ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology and pediatric ophthalmology.

This position will be based at Harborview Medical Center (HMC) at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank, on the Clinical Practice Track. The initial appointment period will be three years, at a minimum, with eligibility for renewal thereafter. Faculty on the clinical practice track hold multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Clinical Practice track appointments are not eligible for tenure.

Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described in UW’s Faculty Code Section 24-34. Positions are available effective May 1, 2025 though the specific start date is negotiable.

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. Responsibilities include clinical care, resident and fellow supervision and training including both medical and surgical training, and teaching of medical students. Candidates will be expected to provide medical and surgical care, including evaluation and treatment of consult and emergency patients.

Compensation

Salary

The base salary for this position will be $17,000 - $26,667 per month ($204,000 - $320,004 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through University of Washington Physicians (UWP) practice plan in additional to base salary provided by the university.  

Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in the University benefit determinations and calculations.  Compensation provided by the UWP practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.  Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through University of Washington Physicians practice plan.  Incentive is inclusive of variable incentive, Monthly or Semi-Annual additional compensation (MAC/SAAC).

Qualifications

Candidates must have an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and have completed ophthalmology residency (or foreign equivalent).

A demonstrated record of teaching and scholarly research in ophthalmology is required. Applicants must be American Board of Ophthalmology-certified (or foreign equivalent) or Board eligible and eligible for licensure in the State of Washington.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
