About the role

   

The Dentistry and Oral Surgery service at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA) has an immediate opening for a Licensed Veterinary Technician.

You will be part of an international team of board-certified veterinary dentistry faculty, and will work with residents, students, and manage the licensed veterinary technicians (LVT) and operating rooms to provide high quality care for our patients.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a patient advocate for quality care and also be a collaborative technical instructor to the veterinary students, interns, and residents

  • Run an efficient, organized dentistry service, including organizing the receiving service; greeting, receiving and discharging clients; conducting physical/oral exams, drawing blood and coordinating procedures with auxiliary services. 

  • Work with a wide variety of species.

  • Perform all aspects of nursing care which includes completion and instruction of oral exams, dental radiographs, dental scaling, and the instruction of students, clinical staff and clinicians. 

  • Assist with case management, set-up/clean dental procedure room and equipment (i.e., instrument cleaning and maintenance).  

  • Pre and post-surgical care of the patient.

  • Must maintain records and enter client data in CUHA’s electronic information systems.

  • Develop and maintain excellent and professional working relationships and communication with staff, students, technicians, veterinarians, clients and the general public at all times.

  • As part of an academic teaching hospital, the technicians will work with faculty to implement and/or collaborate with other service clinicians on clinical investigations conducted within the CUHA, including data collection and teaching support.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Veterinary Technology, NYS licensure or eligible to be licensed required

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.

  • Meet the physical demands of the position, which include prolonged standing and kneeling, lifting and restraining animals that may exceed 50 pounds.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships including communicating with staff, students, technicians, veterinarians and clients in a professional manner.

  • Rabies immunizations required with costs covered. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with general or specialty practice dentals is a plus.

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days of the year.

  • The majority of our teaching and routine care for this role occurs Monday through Friday, day shifts. Other hours, as determined by caseload and need, to include weekends and holidays (includes generous holiday pay) may be required.
