Job Description

The Security Services Director reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs all Security operations related to the 6+ million square foot NMHC hospital, commercial and residential real estate portfolio.
  • Ensures the security, safety and customer service for patients, visitors, physicians and employees.
  • Responds definitively and effectively to campus security breaches.
  • Oversees security incident response planning and investigation of breaches; assists with disciplinary and legal matters associated with such breaches.
  • Oversees and manages to the annual budget and management plan for NMH Security Services portfolio.
  • Ensures the day-to-day operations align with the strategic and operational goals for the campus.
  • Recommends efficiency and cost savings opportunities.
  • Identifies and eliminates security risks.
  • Leads Security management planning for new and existing NMH departments and buildings.
  • Oversees selection of contracted security firms and staff.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key internal partners to ensure public safety within and around NMH properties.
  • Oversees and provides direction for major security related projects and physical security technologies, including various card key access systems, alarm systems, video surveillance systems, security services, IT and data security systems and various other related systems.
  • Ensures security compliance with regulatory standards, including Environment of Care (EOC), Joint Commission and Illinois Emergency Management Association (IEMA).
  • Develops and maintains security metrics.
  • Acts as key point of contact for all external law enforcement agencies carrying out duties within NMH properties.
  • Participates and provides leadership on various campus wide committees, councils and process improvement teams, acting in an advisory capacity.
  • Provides campus wide guidance regarding "best practice" business security standards, solutions and guidance to maintain a secure environment for the protection of personnel, property and information.
  • Interprets security laws, regulations, and contract requirements; directs subordinates in enforcing compliance; and maintains relationships with law enforcement, regulatory agencies, and other issuers of security requirements.
  • Other responsibilities as designated in support of organizational priorities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in the security industry, preferably 3-5 in healthcare industry.
  • 5+ years of security management experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
  • Proven financial management skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Strong process improvement skills.
  • Experience planning and interfacing with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Healthcare experience.
  • Union negotiation experience.
