We are revolutionizing the way the world moves for future generations, and we want someone who is ready to move with us.
Who will you be working with?
The Electric Drives team combines power electronics knowledge and converter control to provide world class traction systems performance for Locomotives and Mining Trucks. Here at Wabtec, you will work with systems teams to develop and validate power electronics, converters and the associated control to meet the customers vehicle performance expectations.
How will you make a difference?
The Senior Power Systems Engineer will own development, design and test of IGBT-based inverter power architectures associated with the propulsion and auxiliary functions on our locomotive and off-highway mining truck applications. Primary focus will be to own and support liquid-cooled design strategies, power agnostic truck designs along with supporting our latest battery-electric “FLXdrive” locomotive system architectures. The candidate will have deep knowledge in high-power inverter/converter systems in the transportation environments and understand battery control topologies.
What do we want to know about you?
Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering (Ph.D. Desired) w/ 10+ years industry experience
Strong ability in converting system-level requirements into conceptualized solutions that can be prototyped and/or designed for production use
Expert in power converter circuit design
Strong working knowledge and experience with IGBT-based closed-loop control systems in high power transportation applications
Ability to define gate drive functional requirements.
Up-to-Date with latest technology trends with ability to integrate our legacy production designs; Established relationships within the power semiconductor industry.
Silicon and Silicon Carbide power mosfet experience; Working knowledge of semiconductor physics.
Expertise in Silicon Carbide driving and control
Ability to analyze complex (electro-mechanical) system behaviors to include common mode, harmonics, ground currents, transient and steady-state operational modes when controlling various DC-DC converter cirucuit and 3-phase motor load types; able to identify parasitic parameters like stray capacitance to ground.
Strong working knowledge of Matlab, Simulink and ability to create plant-models for OPAL-RT based Hardware in the Loop (HIL) simulators; PLECS and Simplorer expertise is a plus.
Able to troubleshoot field issues via system analysis and lab testing; design countermeasure to improve system quality (filter / snubber design)
What will your typical day look like?
The Senior Power Systems Engineer will focus efforts on IGBT-based inverter and converter topologies for our products and own design efforts for necessary subcomponents to include capacitors, bus bars, gate drivers, control software, chopper modules, rectifier/diode optimizations and other component needs to align to our strategic visions. The candidate will have direct interactions with our Senior VPs of Technology and will be responsible for conceptualizing ideas into real products. The candidate will also have a strong ability to mentor and coach peers to build bench strength within the organization and ensures technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and responsiveness to customer/program needs.
