Job Description

We are seeking a motivated Geotechnical Field Technician / Subgrade Inspector to support our growing workload in the Pocatello and Idaho Falls areas. This role is essential to maintaining quality on active construction sites, supporting geotechnical projects, and ensuring project requirements are met. If you enjoy hands-on field work, problem-solving, and working outdoors, this position offers a strong career path with opportunities for certification and advancement

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform field density testing, subgrade inspection, and proof-roll observations
  • Conduct construction materials testing in accordance with project specifications and industry standards
  • Collect, document, and report field data with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Track time and mileage daily
  • Submit samples following proper procedures and chain-of-custody requirements
  • Submit reports and timecards daily
  • Respond to emails, texts, and phone calls within a reasonable timeframe
  • Communicate findings clearly with contractors, supervisors, and project managers
  • Assist with geotechnical field tasks as assigned
  • Maintain equipment, follow safety procedures, and uphold company standards
  • Travel to job sites in the Pocatello and Idaho Falls regions
  • Support project schedules, including occasional early mornings, late evenings, weekends, or out-of-town work when needed

You’ll thrive here if you have

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical field work, or similar outdoor field roles on active job sites
  • Additional education or coursework in geotechnical engineering is a plus
  • Exposure to or certification with field testing equipment (e.g., nuclear gauge) is preferred but not required
  • OSHA 10 certification (or ability to obtain)
  • ICC in Solis certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and proof of insurance
