Job Description

We are seeking a detail oriented and analytical GHG Inventory Specialist to join our corporate sustainability team. Under the direction and guidance of the Corporate Sustainability Manager, the GHG Inventory Specialist will be responsible for collecting, validating, analyzing, and reporting greenhouse gas emissions, and other environmental data, as part of our annual emissions inventory. This role will play a key part in our efforts to measure, manage, and reduce our carbon footprint and drive progress towards our sustainability goals.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated background and interest in GHG’s and sustainability, and a desire for continuous learning. This role also requires strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills to build support across business units and departments and support the company’s ambitious sustainability goals.

This role will be based in Jersey City, NJ at our Headquarters. Verisk has a flexible in office and at home work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages and coordinates the company’s annual emissions inventory (covering Scope 1, 2, and 3) and collection of other environmental data.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality and processes and drive continuous improvement of the annual emissions inventory.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance overall sustainability performance and progress against sustainability goals.
  • Analyze emissions trends over time and identify opportunities for emission reductions and efficiency improvements.
  • Engage and build relationships with a cross-functional team of internal and external stakeholders, including teams from global business units, real estate, finance, and third party partners, to ensure comprehensive data collection.
  • Stay up to date on all emerging trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to GHG accounting and reporting.
  • Assist with sustainability reporting efforts, including responses to surveys, questionnaires, and disclosure frameworks (e.g., CDP, ISSB).
  • Support the team on other projects as needed.

  • Stay up to date on all emerging trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to GHG accounting and reporting.
  • Assist with sustainability reporting efforts, including responses to surveys, questionnaires, and disclosure frameworks (e.g., CDP, ISSB).
  • Support the team on other projects as needed.
  • Completes all responsibilities as outlined on annual Performance Plan.
  • Completes all special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or related field; or equivalent experience (Advanced degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in greenhouse gas accounting, environmental data management, or related field (experience with SBTi and Net Zero preferred)
  • Strong understanding of greenhouse gas accounting principles, methodologies, and protocols; renewable energy, offsets, and energy efficiency
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with the ability to perform data analysis and identify gaps and trends in data
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work independently and be self-driven, but also work well in a cross-functional team environment
  • A demonstrated passion and commitment to sustainable business practices
  • A willingness to learn, be flexible, and adapt as needed
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office and other applicable applications (experience with sustainability software platforms is a plus)
