What you will be doing
In the next years Umicore will achieve a significant growth (especially in the field of battery materials and battery recycling), which will result in an increasing complexity of processes, organization and trade flows. Combined with regulations becoming ever more strict and a very uncertain global economic outlook (e.g. trade wars), it will be of crucial importance to have a clear oversight, standardization and uniformity, and to ensure compliance at all levels. This will give Umicore a considerable competitive advantage.
The Global Customs Compliance Manager needs to bring corporate oversight regarding customs and should build and bring expertise into the Umicore Group. Furthermore the Global Customs Compliance Manager should contribute to effective and competitive supply chains for Umicore by:
- avoiding risks and costs for Umicore as a result of non-compliance
- avoiding supply chain interruptions due to non-compliance or accidents
- achieving import duty savings by setting up duty deviation schemes
Customs compliance Belgium:
- Lead the customs department of Umicore NV, and support customs departments Umicore Specialty Materials Brugge and Todini BV.
- Make sure that processes are maintained to set the correct product classification, preferential and non-preferential origin, valuation and customs procedure, hence ensuring the correctness of the operational customs clearance and import VAT,
- Ensure the correctness of reporting for special procedures such as inward/outward processing relief and bonded warehouse.
- Obtain and ensure the needed permits such as AEO certification, approved exporter, inward/outward processor, bonded warehouse…
- Ensure customs compliance by setting up an internal control plan, assist customs audits and follow-up on recommendations from audits.
- Be the liaison with customs and tax authorities for all Belgian operations.
- Conclude agreements with customs brokers, agree on SOP and control the good execution of SOP.
- Regularly report internally on customs operations and projects.
Global Customs compliance for the Umicore group:
- Support the development and maintain the Minimum Customs Compliance Requirements for the Umicore Group. Scope BU’s PMR, RBM, CSM, BRS and EOM and their worldwide affiliates, as well as CRD, P&T, IS, Todini BV.
- Collaborate with the Global Process Owner on these processes as global Subject Matter Expert Customs:
- the implementation of Minimum Customs Compliance Requirements
- the digitization and digitalization of customs compliance processes.
- the design and development of processes and procedures that help various functions to execute compliance in a more streamlined, standardized and effective manner.
- the development of monitoring tools that allow to have full oversight
- Obtain and bring oversight on a global level & provide insights
- Coordinate and facilitate the on time completion and consolidation of global customs related reporting and dashboards. Analyse, interpret and report insights (results, risks, opportunities, …) to the Director Transport and Trade Compliance and the BU’s.
- Bring clarity on and map current and new trade flows of different BU’s and their affiliates. Detect potential risks and inefficiencies. Provide oversight to the Director Transport & Trade Compliance and provide insights to the GPO and other team members.
- Set up internal health checks programs (how & what to be checked) for the BU’s and their affiliates to be conducted by the GPO, based on observations and experience.
