The division of General Pediatrics, under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Investigators (Co-Is), are seeking a part-time Research Assistant who will assist in the coordination and execution of activities that support the research goals and program activities of the Johns Hopkins Harriet Lane Primary Care Clinic (HLC) Patient and Family Advisory Council. The Harriet Lane Clinic is a pediatric primary care clinic located on the East Baltimore campus of Johns Hopkins with more than 7,000 patients and 50 providers. The incumbent will specifically support the specific aims of the HLC’s Johns Hopkins Children’s Center Innovation Grant, “Promoting equity in care delivery through family engagement in the Harriet Lane Primary Care Clinic”.
Aim 1 - To understand family priorities and preferred structure for engagement and partnership at the Johns Hopkins Harriet Lane Primary Care Clinic.
Aim 2 - To establish a patient and family advisory council at the Johns Hopkins Harriet Lane Primary Care Clinic that is representative of our patient and family population and can serve as a model of meaningful and equitable family engagement among similar practice settings.
The successful candidate will work directly with our multidisciplinary research team, clinic staff, and parent and family advisors through December 2024. Our mixed methods research will allow for opportunities in survey design and recruitment, focus group recruitment, data collection and analysis, and dissemination. They will assist the PI and Co-I’s with project coordination and implementation, administrative support, and other assigned duties.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists in the coordination and participates in research study meetings, including the preparation of agendas and taking of detailed meeting minutes.
- Maintains knowledge of research study protocols.
- Develops recruitment materials for participant surveys and focus groups.
- Using internal software tools, database, and script guidelines, reach out to participants on the phone to speak with them about the project, determine eligibility, obtain oral consent, and record responses to interview questions.
- Organizes and conducts participant focus groups.
- Completes data entry.
- Answer queries and provide technical information to participants.
- Ensures security, quality, and confidentiality of data by following policies and procedures.
- Assists PI and Co-Is in administrative duties related to PFAC.
- Plans, helps with organization, and attends monthly PFAC meetings.
- Develop and translate materials to help promote and recruit parent advisors for the HLC PFAC.
- Answer queries and provide technical information to PFAC parent advisors.
- Assists in the development of presentations, publications, toolkits, flyers, letters and other materials for dissemination of research and PFAC materials.
- Assists in the development of tables and figures for reports and manuscripts.
- Completes all training in a timely manner.
- Assists PI and Co-Is as necessary regarding typing, filing, faxing, mass mailings, chart review.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Must be able to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.
- Must have the ability to work well and communicate effectively with others, and execute, consolidate and organize ideas.
- Must have strong organizational skills, initiative, leadership skills, attention to detail, be able to take direction, and work independently and as part of a team (teams of researchers and with diverse subject populations in particular).
- Ability to learn new database and software applications is required.
- Ability to follow multiple, detailed directions of various protocols. Knowledge of medical terminology and diverse patient populations highly desired.
- Must have excellent time management skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
- Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior research or project implementation experience.
- Experience working in clinical settings and/or with providers and clinical staff.
- Experience in database operations and/or experience in coordination of medical or laboratory research.
- Bilingual speaker in English and Spanish languages.
