The Team You’ll Work With
The Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice (MOCEJ) is a team of architects, lawyers, data and climate scientists, engineers, policy advisors, geologists, and city planners working to create a city where our 8.8 million New Yorkers can live, work, learn, and play in healthy, resilient, and sustainable neighborhoods. MOCEJ integrates sustainability, resiliency, and environmental justice into one coordinated approach across several climate and environmental offices, all working to make our buildings efficient and resilient; our infrastructure climate-ready; our streets, open spaces, and public realm active, safe, and healthy; and our energy clean and resilient. The Problems You’ll Solve
The Deputy Chief of Staff will provide high-level strategic, operational, and organizational support to the Director, Chief of Staff, and senior leadership team; assist with overseeing agency coordination, policy, and program development; co-lead on funding and grant management, and execution of climate and environmental priorities while modeling values of collaboration, sustainability, and equity. The Deputy Chief of Staff will lead and oversee a high-priority strategic initiative to be determined based on organizational needs.
Leadership Strategy and Support:
- Support all aspects of MOCEJ in tandem with the Chief of Staff, including providing strategic leverage for the Executive Director and senior management team across the policy teams.
- Advise on stakeholder, organizational, and employee engagement strategy, including diversity and inclusion as well as civic and community participation.
- Support the management and coordination of agency relationships and actions to ensure the execution of key milestones across the policy teams.
- Support and provide strategic direction and analytical support to program and policy staff and the Director, including quantitative and qualitative data analysis that produces accurate and well-thought-out recommendations, to help shape the development of climate policy, partnerships, and communications.
- Work with the Chief of Staff and senior leadership team to develop and execute office strategy.
Office Operations:
- Develop and manage standard operating procedures with the Chief of Staff to advance City and climate priorities and elevate issues within City Hall.
- Prepare agendas, take notes, and prepare meeting summaries as necessary.
- Monitor and coordinate various office management tasks, such as budget, personnel matters, and other sensitive or confidential tasks, as may be assigned by the Chief of Staff.
- Represent MOCEJ at meetings and other relevant events.
- Track and collect data on project outcomes to inform future funding and implementation decisions.
- Provide guidance on all documents that come into and leave MOCEJ to ensure high quality, timely responsiveness, and superior performance, especially major office reports and agreements.
- Execute special projects and organizational tasks, and perform other related duties, as assigned.
Budget and Contract Management:
- Build project tracking documents for increased visibility on Director’s priority projects and commitments and advance the development and delivery of reporting tools relate
