This is a site based role, location Cambridge, MA
The Associate Director of Portfolio Analytics will provide real-time portfolio insights and analysis to senior leadership, key stakeholders, and cross-divisional counterparts. This will support strategic decision-making, portfolio prioritization, and generate a common understanding of pipeline status. The Associate Director will also support the characterization of the portfolio's current state, performance against metrics, and future evolution for internal and external purposes, as well as the further advancement of simulations methodologies and portfolio simulation tools.

Major Accountabilities:
- Supports portfolio assessment and regular, high quality pipeline insights to provide a real-time holistic picture of the Novartis pipeline including impact of recent internal and external events and decisions on short, mid- and long-term growth to key stakeholders.
- Contributes towards analyses and insights in close collaboration with Divisional counterparts, Corporate & TA Strategy, and Portfolio Strategy & Analytics colleagues and other key stakeholders to drive real-time portfolio review and prioritization deep dives for portfolio governance and inform the ECN (C-Suite) Strategy Meeting as a part of the annual strategic planning cycle, driving the sustainable delivery of transformative medicines in the short-, mid- and long-term.
- Creates and maintains regular reporting on the pipeline in dimensions of value, strategic fit and execution to internal and external stakeholders.
- Contributes insights to inform Governance decision-making on portfolio trade-offs involving internal and external Business Development & Licensing (BD&L) projects to achieve growth goals subject to investment constraints by preparing an independent individual project assessment and position within the portfolio in collaboration with Strategy & Growth colleagues and other key stakeholders.
- Develops and delivers in-depth analyses and strategic insights into the drug pipeline/portfolio addressing senior management questions (including Executive Committee Novartis ECN and Board of Directors)
- Provides pipeline information including changes for external reporting (e.g., 20F, Annual Report, and other IR-related events) by establishing and maintaining systems and processes in liaison with key stakeholders across the organization.
- Establishes and drives innovative portfolio tools to capture standardized inputs for reporting and project/portfolio assessments, including financial valuations, scenario planning and pipeline modelling
- Contributes towards the continued build out of the newly integrated Portfolio Strategy & Analytics function and acts as an influential ambassador and portfolio expert to the rest of Novartis.
Key Requirements
- Degree in business (ideally MBA) or advanced scientific degree is required
- Significant pharma industry experience, with experience in research, development and/or commercialization areas. In-depth multi-/cross-functional team experience, e.g. in Project Management. Experience gained in consultancy, preferably in one of the major consultancy firms, with demonstrated experience in international and multidisciplinary drug development teams in a leading position might be considered equivalent. Experience in handling and modeling complex financial and commercial figures with in-depth knowledge of forecasting and valuation methodologies.
- Familiarity with or direct experience in applied decision analysis, R&D portfolio management, simulation, and/or data science is a plus.
- Excellent understanding of the biopharmaceutical R&D business. Demonstrated in depth insights of the global competitive business environment.
- Proficiency in English required, written & verbal. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with track record of developing senior management-ready presentations; along with strong planning and organization skills.
- Strong cross-functional matrix leadership experience and ability to establish strong partnerships without formal authority.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $151,200 to $226,800 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.Ā Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location
