Summary

The NAGPRA Intern will be supporting the next steps in an artifact repatriation process as outlined below.  

What You'll Do

•    Assist in the preparation of the artifact consultation space.
•    Attend any internal cross-functional meetings and consultation meetings with tribes when available and where appropriate.
•    Assist staff in responding to consultation feedback, including making any adjustments to the consultation space.
•    Assist in the preparation of repatriation documentation and reporting.
•    Support the physical packing and repatriation of objects from the Kelley and Midvale Turney Collections to the tribes, if feasible within the timeline of the internship.
•    Assist in the research, documentation, and reorganization of the other objects in the indigenous artifact collection.
•    Support staff research requests, projects, and programming wherever interested and available.
•    Regularly move, lift, and reorganize objects, components, and equipment up to 50 lbs.

What It Takes To Succeed

•    Knowledge of documentation practices and procedures pertaining to museum objects storage and the treatment, care, and storage of indigenous artifacts.
•    Skill in verbal and written communication and following instructions.
•    Skill in documentation of museum objects, storage, and project management.

Experience

Preferred qualifications:
•    Experience or coursework in museum studies, archaeology, anthropology, history, or related field
•    Coursework regarding the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and/or the ethical handling of indigenous artifacts 
•    Interest in museum work, prehistoric cultures of the southwest, American history, artifact identification, artifact repatriation, and collection management
•    Experience with museum documentation methods
•    Experience with Collection Management software systems

Education

College level coursework (100+) from an accredited institution will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.

 

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week.
