Duties and Responsibilities:
- Key member in research and development (R&D) activities for all electromechanical aspects of HSI’s Wearable Electronics systems and sub-systems roadmap.
- Work from design concepts and requirements to engineer innovative products that meet functionality, cost and schedule goals
- Electro-mechanical design, layout and modeling of electro-mechanical assemblies and electronics packaging (using SolidWorks)
- Develop and assemble non-functional and functional prototypes of small-scale mechanical and electromechanical assemblies
- Continuously improve the design process by ensuring best practices and tools are applied and evaluated
- Implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) practices.
- Perform design and drawing checking and approval.
- Perform system-level tolerance analysis.
- Create detail designs and drawings for fabrication.
- Interface with manufacturing (in-house and out-of-house) to ramp up production of HSI products
- Solve thermal and mechanical design problems.
- Lead design reviews.
Functional Skills/Knowledge:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong time management skills
- Strong proficiency in 3D modeling (SolidWorks)
- Candidate must be comfortable in conceptual as well as hands-on design, assembly and integration, including development and assembly of small-scale mechanical and electromechanical prototypes and small deliverable runs.
- Experience with rapid-prototyping techniques and tools
- Experience with the creation of engineering drawings, GD&T preferred
- Familiarity with both Defense and Medical Device industries is preferred but not required.
- Experience with fabric assemblies and/or softgoods design is a plus
Education and Experience:
- BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience, preferably in an emerging technology company.
- Experience in a Technology/R&D Environment with writing capabilities related to grants, proposals and other investigative efforts.
- Must be a permanent, legal US resident. US Citizenship preferred.
