Job Description

The Capital Markets and Factor Investing Department (CMF) invests assets globally in public equities, fixed income securities, currencies, commodities, and derivatives, and manages the engagement of investment managers and co-investments in public market securities.  

The Systematic Strategies Group (SSG) group within the Capital Markets and Factor Investing department is recruiting for an Intern for Summer 2026 Internship with a start date in May 2026. SSG develops and manages systematic investment strategies across global markets spanning equities, fixed income, commodities, currencies, and volatility. SSG invests in absolute return strategies as well as long-only strategies, designed to provide a diversifying return stream to the total fund.  

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Contribute to the research, development, and implementation of systematic investment strategies in various markets or to the development of the portfolio construction and risk management framework for our strategies 
  • Present research findings and participate in discussions in various SSG investment forums 
  • Partner with colleagues in the SSG to conduct periodic reviews of existing investment strategies and processes 
  • Partner with colleagues in the Investment Engineering and Analytics team to design and implement new tools and analytics modules 
  • Contribute to the management of our multi-asset systematic investment portfolio 

Other Responsibilities:  

  • Assisting in deep dive analysis of implemented strategies and portfolio performance 
  • Facilitating day-to-day activities on the desk such as the reporting of performance, risk, and positioning of a suite of factor portfolios 
  • Ad-hoc projects analyzing and making recommendations on topics such as investment research, data engineering, and portfolio engineering 

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will be graduating from an undergraduate or graduate program in December 2026 (or later) and is working towards a degree in a STEM or business field. 
  • Strong programming skills, preferably in Python  
  • Empirical research experience analyzing large data sets 
  • Interest in capital markets and investment management 
  • Knowledge of financial instruments (e.g., equities, futures, swaps or options) is an asset 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and an interest in working in a dynamic collaborative environment. 
  • Self-motivated, organized, flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and new challenges 
  • Candidates must exemplify CPP Investments’ guiding principles of high performance, integrity, and partnership.
