Program Description:

The Undergraduate Summer Analyst Program gives undergraduate juniors the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at a unique institution. Through dynamic, project-based work assignments and professional development activities, students get:

Junior interns work in one specific business area or function for ten weeks, and have access to opportunities for collaboration with other students and employees from around the Bank. At the end of the program, students leave with strong skills, professional connections, and meaningful experiences that will support them in their long-term careers.

Our Unique Work:

  • The Research & Statistics Group - Research function at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York conducts policy-oriented academic research and provides analytic support for the Bank's responsibilities relating to monetary policy, monetary policy execution, banking supervision, payments systems, and other economic and financial issues. As a summer analyst in Research, responsibilities may include:

  • Assist economists and research associates in the analysis of current public policy issues

  • and events.

  • Assist economists and research associates in long-term, academically oriented research

  • Projects.

  • Conduct econometric analyses intended for Bank publications as well as academic journals.

  • Programming in statistical packages such as SAS, STATA, and MATLAB

How You’ll Make an Impact as a Research & Statistics Intern (Junior)

  • As a summer analyst in Research, you must have a demonstrated interest in economics, public policy, mathematics or statistics, and a strong academic record. Additional requirements include:

  • Experience using large databases and statistical packages like SAS, Stata, Mat lab and Python

  • Ability to provide concise, articulate, and insightful economic analysis in written and verbal form.

  • Good leadership skills with the ability to think strategically and demonstrate a broader viewpoint on assignments

The Unique Skill Sets We’re Looking For:

  • A demonstrated interest in finance, accounting, economics, capital markets, business, ethics and compliance, or operational management with a strong academic record and passion for data analysis.

  • High interest in Finance, Banking, or Economics, with a strong academic record and a passion for public service.

  • Experience in data analysis and using statistical packages (e.g., R, Stata, Matlab, Julia, SAS, Gauss, TSP, RATS, EViews, PROCSQL), or other computer programming experience (e.g., Java, C++, Python).

  • Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Acrobat.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
