About the role 

With site capacity expanding by almost 30% this year, and several exciting investments in progress, Abcam has a new opportunity for a Senior Workplace Manager at our 100,000sqft Waltham, MA location (For a short video tour - click here)

Our US HQ is a beautiful site that opened in late 2020 and is home to a variety of corporate, laboratory and logistics teams. Our Workplace team are responsible for all soft and hard services, along with laboratory support on site and the Senior Workplace Manager is at the heart of the operation – creating and maintaining outstanding, flexible and safe that allow our people to do our best work.

We’re looking for an experienced leader who enjoys both being hands on driving operational performance and “making change happen” whilst also considering how best to evolve the site and business to respond to the needs of our customers and employees.

Roles & Responsibilities: 

You will ensure our site standards and design principles are upheld providing clean and safe spaces for our teams to do their best work. By leading and developing your Workplace team you will deliver cost effective and on-time planned/reactive maintenance and upkeep of all laboratory, office areas and equipment on site to the very highest standard. Establishing a strong network and point of escalation when needed whilst maintaining strong relationships with our colleagues, landlords, partners and workplace vendors.

You will interested in changes in the Workplace industry and connect this to what it means for our ways of working and buildings to identify initiatives and improvements to environment, working with your team to continuously improve our experience at work.

Qualifications

You will have previous experience leading a workplace/facilities team to deliver a great place to work and are able to look to the future so our workplaces keep pace with our growth.

You will have experience working with laboratory environments and have a technical understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical and electrical services, wastewater, plumbing, RODI systems, fire safety alarms, compressed air, gas distribution systems, building and structural maintenance.

You are available for emergency call when situations arise. You are comfortable lifting, carrying, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, and twisting on an occasional basis and are comfortable climbing ladders when needed.

You are a great people manager, having built effective and engaged teams, always looking to improve their development and careers. Your ability to manage the most senior stakeholders with a calm and thoughtful approach will be a key strength as you consider how to manage change across all our teams.
