About the role

 

Overview

 

The Senior Professional Manufacturing Engineering ensures the implementation of new manufacturing processes and their relocation to production sites.

The Senior Engineer, Process Automation oversees the assembly and integration of manufacturing equipment, tooling, jigs, and fixtures for the manufacturing of medical devices (Medical Class III products, active implantable devices). Write programs and characterize processes for applications such as laser welding, resistance welding, adhesive dispensing, liquid injection molding, PLC/HMI, and vision inspection. Develop R &D pilot lines for new products. Ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) through concurrent engineering practices.

 

 

 

What you’ll do:

  • Duties are focused on developing manufacturing equipment and processes in collaboration with R&D and New Product Introduction, including cost estimation/analysis, parts procurement, equipment/tooling assembly, feasibility plan/testing/reports, manufacturing equipment definition/debug/characterization, tooling definition/debug/ characterization, process definition/debug/ characterization, software programming definition/debug/characterization , training, and transfer of equipment into manufacturing.
  • Responsible for programming manufacturing equipment including process control, sequence of operation, operator interface, and alarm handling.
  • Develop new processes and implement production methods, tooling, testing for emerging new products by interfacing with R&D in coordinating the release of new products.
  • Identify automation opportunities, estimate manufacturing cost, determine time standards and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines.
  • Develop, characterize and optimize technologies and processes using statistical techniques (SPC), engineering knowledge and experience.
  • Create and maintain production documentation and assembly procedures.
  • Identify, organize, plan, track and close out problems related to system hardware, quality, reliability, and cost on new and existing products.
  • Conform to FDA QSR by following Advanced Bionics Standard Development Process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Travelling Requirement: up to 10%

 

 

 

What you bring to the team:

 

 

Education

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering

Nice to Have

  • Master’s Degree

 

 

Work Experience

  • 5+ years of engineering experience, with automated equipment and process development

Nice to Have

  • 7+ years of engineering experience, including automated equipment and process development with Class 3 Medical Devices

  • Able to work from CAD drawings, and schematics to create and modify manufacturing equipment and tooling.
  • SolidWorks or CREO 3D CAD for creating and modifying drawings.
  • AutoCAD for schematic and facilities layout development
  • MiniTab or equivalent for statistical analysis.
  • Experience with software in all or some of the following: motion control/robotics, PLC, HMI, vision application, Basic, C/C++.

Nice to Have

  • Experience developing manufacturing processes including all or some of the following: motion control, laser welding, liquid injection molding, resistance welding, vision inspection, and general aspects of assembly automation.
  • Machine shop experience
