About the Role:

As a Licensing and International Trade Compliance Manager for Planet, you will be a member of our Legal team and will have the opportunity to work on issues that may have large compliance and/or financial implications for the company.  You will routinely interface with engineers, management, local and international personnel, as well as external counsel and vendors.  You will provide general support of attorneys, consultants, and paralegals in areas of economic sanctions, export controls, customs, and other areas of global trade compliance.  The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with great judgment and attention to detail.  You will have an appreciation of business processes and risks.

This is a full-time, hybrid position which will require you to work in our D.C. office at least three days per week.

Impact You'll Own:

  • Serving as an Empowered Official (“EO”) for the company and trusted advisor to business teams
  • Advising the business on international trade compliance requirements and developing strategic compliance plans to meet business objectives
  • Serving as interface with U.S. government agencies in support of trade compliance initiatives
  • Reviewing international trade compliance terms for proposals/contracts
  • Drafting and preparing filings for government agencies, including license applications, regulatory notifications, and scheduled reporting
  • Owning the full lifecycle of export license applications and license management in support of business objectives
  • Developing/updating licensing templates and guidance, as needed 
  • Providing export classification reviews/assessments and tracking new technology developments within the company
  • Preparing/filing Commodity Jurisdiction Requests, Commodity Classification Requests, and Advisory Opinions, as needed
  • Reviewing/approving visitor requests 
  • Developing/approving technology control plans
  • Supporting the drafting, review, and implementation of internal processes and procedures
  • Preparing and conducting compliance trainings for employees
  • Reviewing/approving of international shipments
  • Reviewing, clearing, and escalating automated flags for global trade compliance screening
  • Ensuring compliance with FCPA and anti-bribery/anti-corruption requirements, supporting enhanced due diligence as needed
  • Coordinating with hiring managers/HR teams to ensure export compliance for new hires
  • Analyzing economic and financial sanctions for implications to Planet’s global business
  • Record-keeping retention and organization
  • Leading project teams and/or planning and overseeing assignments of lower level employees
  • Conducting other periodic compliance audits/assessments, as assigned
  • Conducting compliance investigations, as assigned, and drafting summary of findings
  • Supporting preparation of voluntary self disclosures, as assigned
  • Other duties, as assigned

What You Bring:

  • B.S. or B.A. 
  • 4+ years experience in international trade compliance
  • Excellent judgement and communication (oral and written); problem solving skills and the ability to work with people of all levels
  • Experience reading and interpreting complex trade regulations 
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work independently with a careful, methodical approach
  • Ability to be detail-oriented, and accurate with high attention to detail
  • Expert in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • High degree of knowl
