About the Role
BetMGM is looking for our next Senior Legal Counsel to support our commercial, privacy, product, corporate development, and business strategy needs. This role will play a pivotal role on our dynamic legal team.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, drafts, and negotiates key, high value commercial contracts, including business development, technology, data protection, AI, and privacy agreements and legal risk management including advising on information security controls, negotiating DPAs and SCCs.

  • Adopts a collaborative business-partnering approach to lead negotiations with partners, suppliers, and affiliates across different functions.

  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of the personal data BetMGM collects, uses and stores and assesses risk mitigation efforts to advise the business accordingly.

  • Proactively advises and identifies legal risks arising from potential or existing commercial relationships and emerging privacy-related laws and regulations in the United States and Canada.

  • Maintains up to date knowledge of state, federal, and global privacy laws, including but not limited to monitoring developments related to GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, VCDPA, CPA, and other emerging state privacy regulation and/or sector-specific frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, GLBA, COPPA).

  • Manages outside counsel to address issues relevant to privacy-related laws and regulations.

  • Reviews products, features, platforms and initiatives to provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies for products across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Provides and coordinates legal advice across complex and multifaceted legal issues such as data protection and privacy, data governance, consumer protection, e-commerce, payments, finance, corporate transactions, artificial intelligence, information integrity, and other legal and regulatory frameworks applicable to BetMGM’s products.

  • Supports commercial transactions by advising the business regarding privacy diligence while partnering with cross-functional teams to achieve business goals in a collaborative environment (compliance, IT, product, finance, business development, technology, and corporate matters).

  • Inspires confidence in business clients by consistently providing well-reasoned legal advice and practical solutions to complex issues.

  • Exhibits a strong work ethic and takes ownership of complex projects with minimal supervision while demonstrating sound judgment and superior decision-making, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills; meets prescribed deadlines.

Qualifications  

  • Juris Doctor Degree

  • Minimum of five (5) years of combined, relevant experience in law firms, governmental agencies, and/or in-house legal departments.  7+ years experience and prior in-house experience preferred.

  • Experience in gaming or other highly regulated industries a plus.

  • Admission to practice law in a U.S. State and eligible to practice law in New Jersey as in-house counsel.
