POSITION OVERVIEW
The Supervisor, Laboratory reports to the Superintendent, Production, and is the technical contact for all matters related to the Laboratory in the facility. The Supervisor, Laboratory organizes and directs the daily activities of the Laboratory, ensures that analytical information is factual, accurate, and timely for the safe, reliable and efficient Plant Operations, and understands business objectives so that the facility operates in support of business needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Responsible for supervising and providing technical direction to Laboratory Technicians.
- Manage the lab facilities including operation and maintenance of lab equipment, management of chemicals & consumables inventory, and reporting of all data generated by the laboratory.
- Coordinate and interface with suppliers and vendors as required to support troubleshooting of lab equipment and to establish long term strategy for consumables supply and maintenance of equipment.
- Responsible for department budget, define problems, establish work scopes and plan work.
- Recommend and implement laboratory methods for sampling and testing of LNG and other hydrocarbon process streams, amine, water treatment systems, and other special samples.
- Develop, implement and maintain the Laboratory Quality Management System. Achieve and maintain certification or accreditation to the required level.
- Develop laboratory procedures and practices.
- Develop, implement, and manage the Lab Information Management System (LIMS).
- Coordinate compliance of Records Information Management (RIM) requirements for electronic documentation on chromatography.
- Develop and maintain a reporting system which meets the needs of the Quality Management System, required regulatory reporting and Company’s internal customers.
- Conduct and oversee quality assurance and quality control of laboratory measurements and analyses.
- Ensure laboratory facilities are maintained in safe conditions, and that safety practices are followed by laboratory staff.
- Ensure all laboratory activities are carried out in accordance with health, environment, and safety policies and procedures.
- Recommend appropriate analytical techniques to help troubleshoot process problems.
- Lead implementation of performance improvement initiatives for the laboratory.
- Perform routine and non-routine laboratory analyses to determine all process parameters per the Analytical Schedule.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of a variety of standard laboratory practices, procedures and chemistry techniques. In-depth knowledge of laboratory equipment and terminology, especially of gas chromatography, titration and atomic absorption spectrophotometry. In-depth knowledge of oil & gas international analytical standards (ISO and GPA). In-depth knowledge of laboratory hazards and safety practices and standards. Knowledge of ISO 17025, uncertainties calculation, methods’ validation and all related procedures to the Quality Management System. Familiar with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation. Familiar with maintenance and repair of lab instrumentation.
