Job Summary
- The primary purpose of the full time Career Services Counselor III (College and Career Navigator) is to focus on retaining and referring Academic Foundations Department students that may be in Christian or adjacent counties seeking to earn a high school equivalency diploma (GED), enroll in college, or advance in a career. Students may be located at college campus, county jails, or other external locations.
Job Duties:
- 1. Provide guidance and assistance to Adult Education students toward a preferred postsecondary or career pathway by developing strategies to help students overcome their unique barriers.
2. Advocate and promote Adult Education program within the service area. Assist in marketing and recruitment activities.
3. Collaborate with instructional staff to monitor student attendance, behaviors, and barriers in order to proactively intervene to support student success
4. Participate in student intake, assessment analysis, and goal setting. Build rapport with students and meet regularly. Assist students in developing skills for goal setting and upgrading academic and occupational skills for further education and employment. Improve student awareness of and access to community resources that support individual career and educational goals
5. Provide guidance and assistance to adult students on persistence to GED obtainment, college and career entry, and training opportunities, by developing strategies to assist students overcome their barriers. Provide region-specific counseling about career opportunities.
6. Conduct screenings for Behavioral Health Conditional Dismissal program participants (Kentucky SB90), and monitor progress.
7. Expedite the GED process for students determined to be at advanced level upon entry.
8. Participate in required professional development activities.
9. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 1. Bachelor’s degree (education or content-related field), and two years related experience or equivalent.
2. Must score within NRS Level 6 on the TABE 11/12 (A) within three months of hire. Math Instructors must take and score within NRS Level 6 in Mathematics and Reading. Reading Instructors must take and score within NRS Level 6 in Reading. If an instructor teaches in more than one area, they must score within NRS Level 6 in each content area they teach.
3. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
4. Experience in and understanding of working with students from diverse populations.
