Starting Wage: $13.00/hour                    Closing Date: 11/01/2024  

Shift/Workdays and Hours: Variable (Sunday - Saturday)

Position Purpose: Provide an excellent skating experience for customers at the Manhattan ice rink by providing  patrons with the equipment necessary to skate, ensuring safety while on the ice, and answering customer questions.  Staff will be paid competitively and may be eligible for promotion/transfer depending on performance.  

Job Duties   

• Issues equipment to participants upon arrival and clean equipment upon exit.  ? 
• Ensures patrons are following rules and participating safely.  ? 
• Perform necessary ice work, including scraping of excess snow on ice, fixing cracks and holes, and resurfacing when needed.  ? Maintains clean workspaces, restrooms, and rink for staff and patrons.  ? 
• Follows direction from MPRD supervisor, Ice Rink manager, and Skating Lessons supervisor.  ? 
• Provides excellent customer service and possess a service philosophy which reflects the mission for the Parks and Recreation Department.  ? 
• Able to establish and maintain cooperative professional working relationships with others; individually and  in a team environment. Other duties as assigned.  

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills and Additional Qualifications  

• Knowledge of ice-skating technique, either figure or hockey. 

Preferred Knowledge and Skills  

• Experience with/skill of ice skating, either hockey or figure. 
• Customer service experience. 

Other Information 

• This is not a KPERS covered position. As such, employees in this role will not work 1,000 hours (or more)  per year.  
• Applicants must pass a background check.  
• Staff may be asked to work weekends and holidays.  
• Ice rink is open November 9th-February 8th .  
• Staff will be required to attend in-service training.  
• Prefer ice skating experience or instruction on skating techniques.
