MECHANCIAL/ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - HATCHERY

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Primarily responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of various mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and conveying systems/types of industrial equipment for a poultry hatchery. Perform preventative and predictive maintenance using blueprints and diagrams to verify that all equipment is operating within required specifications and tolerances. May perform periodic testing and inspections, troubleshooting and repairs. Performs all work in compliance with company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations.

     

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:                              

  • Work scheduled weekly hours of 5 am to 5 pm Sunday thru Tuesday and Wednesday 5 am to 11 am
  • General and preventive maintenance experience
  • Ability and willingness to learn electrical, plumbing, HVAC.
  • Under general supervision, repair and perform preventative maintenance on industrial machinery (i.e. mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, conveying systems, etc) using blueprint and schematic drawings to ensure equipment is performing safely to required specifications
  • Identify root cause of basic mechanical issues and performs repairs by welding, fabricating parts, basic pipefitting or replacing defective component; notify appropriate personnel if further attention is required
  • Identify unsafe conditions and corrects; reports to appropriate personnel if unable to correct on own
  • Assist with maintaining a file of blueprints and operating manuals and procedures as needed
  • Work in compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations
  • Available for after-hours call backs
  • All other duties or days as assigned

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in industrial machine predictive and preventative maintenance or demonstrated applicable mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Intermediate math and computer skills
  • Ability to operate/use basic hand and power tools
  • Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended shift hours
  • Able to speak, read, write, and comprehend English fluently.
  • Able to work any day including Saturday or Sunday if needed.
  • Able to read and understand blueprints, diagrams, instruction manuals, schematics, etc.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detailed oriented
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character
  • Willingness to take breaks at flexible times

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in areas where required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Stand up to 12 hours
  • Frequent climbing of ladders and working on top of hatchery machines
  • Occasionally lift up to 70 lbs
  • Exposure to warm, wet, cold, and dusty environments
  • Frequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling
  • Roll and push buggies (~1,000 lbs.)
  • Work hatchery odors
