About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Control Management Officer to play a critical role within the Wealth and Investment Management, Lending & Banking Control team. This role serves as a strategic partner to business and risk leaders, providing oversight and leadership across custom lending, mortgage lending, and securities‑based lending portfolios.
The Lead Control Management Officer is responsible for driving a comprehensive risk and control framework, leveraging expertise in the lending business to support identification and assessment of lending products, platforms, policies, and end‑to‑end processes. The role focuses on identifying inherent and emerging risks within lending activities and translating regulatory requirements, Wells Fargo policies, and industry best practices into effective, sustainable first‑line controls. Through strong collaboration with business leadership, this position influences control design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement to strengthen the firm’s risk posture while supporting strategic business and growth objectives.
In this role, you will:
Lead complex initiatives designed to mitigate current and emerging risks with broad impact
Act as key participant in monitoring, evaluating, and measuring the impact of decisions practiced in Control Management functional area
Monitor moderately complex business specific programs, and provide risk management consulting to support the business in designing and implementing risk-mitigation strategies
Monitor, measure, evaluate, and report on the impact of decisions and controls to the relevant business group or functional area
Develop and implement risk monitoring and risk reporting processes and controls
Collaborate with relevant business group to identify current and emerging risks associated with business activities and operations, and provide guidance in developing and implementing risk-mitigating strategies
Lead Control Management project or virtual teams
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of Risk Management or Control Management experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
Consumer and/or Commercial Lending, Lending Operations, and/or Consumer/Commercial Lending Regulatory Experience
Wealth, private banking, credit solutions experience with HNW/UHNW clients
Proven ability to assess processes, identify risks, and recommend solutions that drive growth within operational and regulatory frameworks
Direct experience executing the RCSA (risk identification, risk assessment - inherent/residual, and control design)
Direct experience with Issue Management Life Cycle and issue remediation
Experience across enterprise risk management framework, including: risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics governance, risk assessment and control design
Track record of providing constructive challenge with appropriate escalation, root cause analysis and offering solutions
Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, achieve goals, in a dynamic and complex environment
Ability to take on a high level of responsibility, initiative, and accountability
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Job Expectations:
Lead Business Control Management for >1 Risk Assessable Businesses and/or be secondary lead on moderate/high complex processes with high inherent risk. Lead includes ongoing risk and control assessment of processes and business profile changes, working directly and in partnership with the business owner and Independent Risk Management / Second Line of Defense
