GENERAL PURPOSE
Manages and conducts complex activities related to the School’s faculty searches, professorial appointments and promotions, faculty orientation and faculty peer review. Supports and coordinates the work of the School’s Faculty Search and the Appointment, Promotion and Tenure Committees.
SUPERVISOR
This position reports to the Dean, School of Nursing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates new faculty recruitment process
- Develops recruitment plan in coordination with search committee chair for newly approved faculty positions and replacement positions; advertises for positions as needed.
- Acts as point of contact for prospective faculty candidates; responds to inquiries related to open faculty positions and determines disposition; regularly checks faculty affairs online email box and responds appropriately.
- Communicates with faculty candidates and coordinates all aspects of candidates campus visit, interviews and travel; hosts the candidate on the day of campus visits.
- Organizes and distributes to faculty candidates the candidate information packet (providing background/facts/figures on DUSON, Duke and Durham); routinely identifies additional information and resources to augment the packet.
- Develops/implements candidate rating form and process; consolidates interviewers’ feedback.
- Ensures the prospective faculty member has the best recruiting/interview experience possible.
- Processes faculty initial appointments and facilitates initial integration and relocation
- With highest level of confidentiality, drafts faculty offer letters for the Dean.
- Drafts the initial appointment request letter to the Chancellor for the Dean. Advises new faculty hire on required dossier materials for initial appointment.
- Assists new faculty hire with relocation process by facilitating contact with real estate agents, relocation companies, house hunting trips and related reimbursements.
- Coordinates with DUSON HR office, assisting if necessary, on employee orientation for new faculty.
- Coordinates introductory meetings/faculty orientation meetings with School Associate Deans, Program Chairs, FGA chair, APT chair and other department directors (Admissions, Clinical Placements, Academic Support) for new faculty member. Works with ADAA/or designee to determine new faculty’s faculty mentor; works with Dean’s office to schedule 3 month check in meeting for new faculty.
- Provides DU and maintains DUSON faculty-related resource documents (handbooks, DUSON briefing book, etc) for new faculty member upon arrival.
- Coordinates annual faculty peer review process with DUSON APT Committee
- Maintains master list of faculty peer review dates to ensure review are conducted in accordance with DUSON faculty bylaws; advises APT chair of upcoming reviews and other special status cases/reviews
- Works with faculty member to ensure appropriate and accurate review materials are submitted in an organized and timely manner.
- Staffs the APT review meetings, making changes as determined to the review document, and distributes final version of reviews to appropriate individuals.
- Coordinates individual follow up meetings with Committee representative(s) and faculty member; forwarding final documents to Dean’s office for further discussion/meeting.
